Richard Nixon
He’s the president with the asterisk by his name Richard Milhous Nixon, the only U.S. president to resign from office. But Richard Nixon’s legacy to the history of the United States is much more complicated than the scandal of Watergate. His is the classic story of American legend, of a young man who rose from his humble roots to achieve power and influence.Inside you will read about...
✓ The “Have-Not” Nixon ✓ Nixon Rising ✓ Vice President ✓ The Election of 1960 ✓ President at Last ✓ Watergate ✓ Nixon in Disgrace And much more! The story has tinges of Horatio Alger, but also of Machiavelli, and that may be the enigma of Richard Nixon, the student who was offered scholarships to Ivy League schools but couldn’t afford to go there, forever embedding within him the resentment against his political opponents, such as John F. Kennedy, who did; the politician who helped to bring the Republican Party back into power after the Roosevelt years, but who didn’t shy away from “dirty tricks” in order to win election; the dogged, diligent candidate who had his facts in order, but couldn’t compete on television with the telegenic JFK; the anti-communist who negotiated treaties with the Soviet Union and opened the door to China; the stigma of presidential abuse during the Watergate investigation, and the rehabilitation as the elder statesmen of American politics in the post-Watergate years. Was Nixon a villain or a hero? Meet the president whose personality consisted of conflicting layers of pragmatism, patriotism, self-doubt and a fall from grace that roiled American democracy.Richard Nixon A Life From Beginning to End Hourly History Books
I enjoyed reading the e-book Richard Nixon: A Life from Beginning to End. The book contains a lot of information about Richard Nixon’s life, I found it strange that he felt inferior to anyone. I can understand his jealousy of those that had it easier in life; but, he did pretty well financially overall (at least by the end of his life). His struggles made him who he was and prepared him for the struggles that ultimately led to him becoming president. The book did not explain why he had the Democratic Party’s offices wiretapped. Coming of age during that period, it seemed obvious that he was going to be George McGovern, so why did he do it? Leaving Watergate aside, the book described his rehabilitation into a semi-honored elder statesman in the Republican Party. I think the book gives a balanced view of who he was, his political life, and his heritage. I think if you’re interested in reading about presidents you will enjoy this book. If you are interested in the heritage of the Republican Party you will enjoy this book. If you are Nixon hater, you probably will not enjoy this book. Please remember that this e-book is a brief introduction to President Nixon; therefore, if one wants more information they need to conduct research using other referenced materials.Product details

Richard Nixon A Life From Beginning to End Hourly History Books Reviews
This is decisively a slanted opinion book.
This is a great concise read on the Tricky Dick. I am a teacher and use this book (and other Hourly History titles like it) as quick refresher on the subject matter before starting a unit. Please keep up the wonderful and varied titles.
Author is somewhat opinionated, especially in the conclusion talking about our current Commander in Chief. There is a big mistake when the book references Apollo 11 as walking on the moon on July 19,1969. Maybe if they proofread they would have realized that event took place on July 20,1969. Overall, the material was very accurate and complete.
This book opened the doors to see Nixon's legacy as more than the disgrace of his involvement in the Watergate scandal. He was a force to be reckoned with. In dealing with foreign affairs he helped to earn America a seat at the World table. Future Presidents privately sought his advice on foreign affairs. I would recommend this book so that readers can walk away with more than the black mark of Watergate. I believe that the lower and middle classes of today can idenify with Nixon and hopefully understand what motivated him throughout his political career up to and including life after the Presidency.
As both, a history major and an avid reader, I am always up for reading about history. This is no exception.
Nixon you love him or you loathe him. He left his mark on our history. Founded the EPA, signed the Endangered Species Act, pulled the US out of Vietnam, and of course, the mastedrmind behind the Watergate scandal.
I enjoyed this book because I was 20 years old at the time of these events. I thought at the time that all people would remember Nixon for was Watergate and not for the great things he accomplished such as the reopening of China to the west. I was right. I still think he was a great man, flawsand all. I always wanted to write and tell him many Americans felt the same way, but I felt one insignificant unknown person's opinion would not be read by him. I still think he was a great man. Enjoyed the book because it pointed this out. Also because I think their is a little "crook" in all politicians.
If you are a regular reader of the Hourly History series, you may find (as I did) that this book on Richard Nixon is one of the better offerings.
The book moves in chronological order, and there are none of the repetitive passages that accompany many of the other Hourly History books. Richard Nixon is presented as a man who has both good qualities as well as bad. For a small book, there is a lot of detail, covering his days in school, college, and the beginnings of his business and political careers. The author handles all of these areas with fairness, presenting the facts and political temperature of the country, and then allowing readers to make their own decisions about what to believe. This evenhanded reporting extends into Nixon's presidential years as well as the years beyond.
Living up to the promise of being able to read this book in an hour, Hourly History has put together a compact history on Richard Nixon that should provide a sound foundation for anyone seeking information about the 37th president. Four stars.
